After many years of being to busy to garden I am finally focused on making my garden a priority.Despite the title of Gothic... I do like the sun, well I like plants, who like sun. I almost never leave the house without the SPF 50.
I've searched the web to find only woefully out of date Gothic Gardening sites, with even fewer images and I am hoping to change that.... Granted I am starting from scratch as my garden is looking a fright! (and not in the gloomy haunted enchantment I plan to create) but rather in the overgrown weedy reality that is my yard.
I live on a farm in the rural south. Yep, a real goth mecca. OK, not so much. I've lived in the Midwest and Europe, and southern gardens are the hardest. Which means hopefully ya'll can adapt these ideas more easily to your climate.
My place is filled with all kinds of critters. Horses, goats, chickens, geese, cows... So maybe now you can understand how I lost my gardening time and I have a lot of challenges to overcome because of these hungry beasts. So, I'm getting back on track, and the goal is to provide beauty, with a dark slant... Sometimes that will mean garden accessories, or a darker pallet... or lighter, LOL... I know right? Shades of white and limes look stunning in the evening light. I once made a moon garden for my mother after she was diagnosed with skin cancer, so she could enjoy the garden in the evenings... I plan to recreate one here in my yard as well, or at least incorporate those white flowers into a larger scheme.
I am fan of cottage gardens, so expect to see those influences as well. Red seems to be a Gothic color staple, but you'll see it used sparingly, as it's not a favorite of mine, unless it's in the deepest shades, bordering on burgundy or purples... this is completely personal preference, so feel free adjust your color pallet appropriately. I'll be using just about every color under the sun... or moon as the case may be... I want my garden to be appealing all the time, so while you'll undoubtly see a lot of purples (which I love) you'll also see contrasting colors to give them visual punch.
So this the end of my first post... hope you'll enjoy the process!
